Tummy time – the stepping stones to development and beyond
Babies arrive into the world hard-wired to learn (and melt hearts), and in what can feel like a blink of an eye, your precious bundle of joy grows and develops from a baby to a walking, talking little person full of wonder and imagination right before you. Your baby’s incredible development is built through a combination of experiences with you and the world around them which helps to stimulate and strengthen the connections (neurons) in their rapidly growing brains. Long before they can roll, sit, crawl or walk, your baby’s brain is working hard learning and achieving all the little milestones that are the precursors to the bigger more celebrated ones.
Did you know tummy time helps prepare your little one to crawl and walk? Incredible right? Starting with lifting their head, tummy time helps support the development of postural muscles and gross motor skills, helps to encourage babies to visually explore the world around them whilst also creating the opportunity for play and development of self-regulation skills.
Unfortunately, some babies don’t enjoy tummy time, and this can easily become frustrating for mum and dad. Does this sound familiar? Maybe your doctor has recommended tummy time to help with reducing ‘flat spots’ on the head. Or maybe you just want to learn new ways to keep your little one entertained. The good news is there are lots of easy and creative ways that you can ensure that your little one not only gets the recommended amount of tummy time but also has lots of fun doing it.
We’re excited to announce that we are now going to be holding our first tummy time class, Lift Off! A developmental workshop for making tummy time easy! This workshop has been designed to help parents understand the importance of tummy time in a fun and interactive manner.
Book now for our first event being held on Wednesday, 1 April 2020, from 9.30 am to 10.15 am.
